Monte A. Alexander is a retiree of the Computer Industry and has been playing the vibraphone and piano for the better part of 30 years. In Jazz Avenue, Monte has focused most of his talents on the vibes, which are becoming a rare sight these days.

He received his B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science from West Coast University in Los Angeles. Most of his professional life was spent as a Mass Properties Engineer and Computer Scientist in the Aerospace and Computer industry.

He also owned and operated a start-up business as a California Trucking Company for eleven years. During that time he served as a member of Mayor Tom Bradley's Advisory Committee for the Office of Small Business Assistance in Los Angeles, and was selected as a delegate to President Jimmy Carter's 1980 White House Conference on Small Business.

Monte and his wife, Marvene, are the proud parents of their daughter, Marte, who is in her sixth season as a professional basketball player in Italy after a great career at the University of Arizona.

Monte has studied the keyboards and music theory with Victor Feldman, Herb Mickman, Jon Novello, Jon Mayer, Tom Deallenbach, and Luther Sonny Pompey. Among his favorite musicians are Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, and his namesake, Monty Alexander (Jamaica). He is a composer and arranger and has several compositions, which are a part of the Jazz Avenue songbook.
Monte is very excited about the overwhelming success that Jazz Avenue is experiencing and looks forward to the group's continued musical growth.
